State certification is Florida's premier stamp of approval for minority, women, and service-disabled veteran business enterprises. It is widely accepted across the State of Florida in the private sector as well as cities, counties, school districts, hospitals, and other governmental entities.

Eligibility criteria can be found in Chapter 287, Florida Statutes, Chapter 295.187, Florida Statues and Chapter 60A-9, Florida Administrative Code. The Office of Supplier Diversity maintains a directory of certified business enterprises online.

Just In Time For The New Year

Well it's been a long year! We've seen a ton of activity internally and of course the country's seen a ton of activity from all angles. The new year is only a few days away. I for one am looking forward to many things in 2009 including a new administration to lead the country (hopefully in a much different direction) and a new outlook on the economy. I really don't see how we can do much worse.

On a great note: we officially released VeteranOwnedBusiness.com on Veteran's Day 2008 (read our PR on the release of VeteranOwnedBusiness.com). It's been a little over a month and we have already crossed the 500 mark for business listings. We have several thousand pre-registered listings (signed up before VeteranOwnedBusiness.com went live). We have been contacting these businesses to resubmit their information. It's been a slow process but day-by-day things are increasing.

Here is a list of some of the important pieces we've been able to implement in 2008:
1) Addition of over 500 veteran owned businesses
2) Set up of site-wide sponsor program
3) Dozens of enhanced listings
4) Site linked to by numerous veterans organizations, blogs, sites and government agencies
5) Set up of nearly 1,000 categories
6) Nearly 1,000 pages linked into Google, 750 in Yahoo and over 2,500 in MSN/Live
7) The addition of a "Why The Military Helped Me Become A Better Business Owner" quote area that runs throughout the site.
8) The addition of over 100 business quotes for the aforementioned quote area
9) Did our first trade show, though it was really small and only a local event, but an a trade show no less

As you can see, 2008 was a very productive year, especially if you take into consideration the site didn't go live (well it's still technically in Beta) until 11/11/2008. 2009 promises to be a spectacular year. Here is a short list of some of the many changes and additions we anticipate making in 2009 (most by the 1st quarter):

1) Have over 2,500 veteran owned businesses listed (End of Q1 2009)
2) Have at least 2 corporate sponsors
3) The addition of states to the directory (to search purely by state instead of categories)
4) 2,500 links to VeteranOwnedBusiness.com from other sites, organizations and directories
5) Creation of a starter package for businesses to include certificates and more
6) Printing and distribution of t-shirts, posters, and, most importantly, stickers and magnets for cars so consumers and fellow veterans can show their support
7) 20 articles written about VeteranOwnedBusiness.com and/or articles VeteranOwnedBusiness.com is referenced in
8) Creation of a Blog on VeteranOwnedBusiness.com in order to keep interested parties updated on the goings on of the directory
9) Get to 50,000 unique monthly visitors (End of Q1 2009)
10) Establish and run first web-based newsletter for VOBs and SDVOBs
11) Establish and run first web-based newsletter for site supporters and visitors
12) 5,000 links in from Google; 5,000 in from Yahoo and 5,000 in from MSN/Live respectively
13) Add a testimonial section for businesses that have bought from or plan to buy from VOBs and SDVOBs
14) Set up a lead generation form where visitors can send an email directly from the VeteranOwnedBusiness.com directory to a business listed
15) Admin panel for listed businesses working in order for each to access and edit their respective listings (End of Q2 2009)
16) 250 banner ads by sponsors running (End of Q1 2009)
17) Officially release from Beta into a fully functioning directory (End of Q1 2009)
18) Blow out release party (End of Q1 2009)

This is a very aggressive plan to try and get many features added and working properly by the end of the first quarter of 2009. Soon (hopefully) we'll have a blog working directly on VeteranOwnedBusiness.com. When we do, I will begin to make post directly there.

It's also imperative that we all search out and conduct business with other American owned businesses... or... as we have been working on: United States Military Vetearn Owned Businesses and Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses.

First Veteran's Conference for VeteranOwnedBusiness.com

Well we have finally signed up and later this morning will be exhibiting at our very first conference exclusively as VeteranOwnedBusiness.com. The signs came out great as did our show handouts. We will upload photos of the show in due time. If you are going to be at the show (8th Annual Veteran's Enterprise Conference at Brevard Community College in Central Florida) be sure to stop by our booth and say "hello".

On other news, we have just hired a Jr. Web Developer who will be starting later on this morning as well.

Quick Update

Things are still rocking along at eWareness. We've hired several additional staff members including our first, full time sales person. She is still learning the ropes but we are very excited to have somebody onboard full time to handle all the emails and phone calls.

eWareness is excited to also have been recently listed on Website Magazine's list of Top 50 SEO firms. I'm sure this comes as no surprise for many of you who are clients and partners; however, the listing is causing use to receive even more leads than we normally get.

We are still plugging along with the VeteranOwnedBusiness.com project. Every day we get closer and closer to release into Beta. What has us very excited is we have crossed over the 1,000 mark of businesses that have pre-registered for their free listing.

Veteran Owned Businesses Directory

Well the Veteran Owned Business Directory is really starting to come along. Our character series is looking great. Please take a look at and let us know what you think about the characters. We are working around the clock (literally) to try to wrap up everything in time for the big Veteran Owned Business conference this Summer.

Great in '08

Hello one and all,

It's now 2008 (actually has been for a week and a half).

Things are rolling along as fast as ever. eWareness is making a fast track toward getting VeteranOwnedBusiness.com up and running and packed with Veteran Owned Businesses in time for several large Veteran Owned Business trade shows. We plan on exhibiting in Las Vegas this summer. With nearly 1,000 sign ups already, it's clearly apparent the VeteranOwnedBusiness.com Directory is shaping up to become the leading authority on businesses that are owned and/or managed by veterans and service disabled veterans.

Other than that, we've been actively looking at areas in Charlotte for a second location for eWareness. Our office will remain headquartered in Melbourne Florida. With growing demand from businesses all over the United States, we've decided try and find an affordable, second location where the cost of living is a little lower than other parts of the country but with a large pool of talented employees. I'll update you more as the Charlotte issue comes along.

Other than that, things are cooking. We've hired 1 full time web designer and one part time web designer. Both are settling in ok.

Happy Holidays

Well the holidays are upon us. It's been an absolutely crazy year for me personally as well as the company I work for: eWareness. We've been going like gangbusters trying to finish up many huge projects before the end of the year and also keep up with the growing list of businesses all over the country looking to have eWareness help them online. We are also putting the finishing touches on the Veteran Owned Business Directory and hope to have that up and running very soon.

End of Summer Update

Hello one and all,

Well summer is coming to an end. Wish I could say I had a great summer! Unfortunately I did not. We worked more or less around the clock... only taking a few weekends off here and there. Good and bad I guess. Good (actually great) because our company -- eWareness -- is growing like crazy; bad because it's not much of a life working around the clock.

As a quick company update: Off the top of my head I'd say we added close to 75 new customers this summer from all over the country including several from Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Texas and of course Florida. We have hired a couple more people and continue to search for exceptional folks to join our staff with web design and web development experience. On a creative note: we recently learned eWareness has won a WebAward for one of the projects we recently completed. The official notification has not been released yet so I can't share any details.

Anyway, that more or less sums everything up. During this upcoming Fall we have a ton of things planned including the release of eWareness' new web site. We are also working on our biggest venture to date on The Veteran Owned Business Directory: http://www.veteranownedbusiness.com. This project is scheduled to go live on Veteran's Day 2007. The overall objective of the site is to have the world's largest directory of veteran owned businesses (VOBs) and service disabled veteran owned businesses (SDVOBs). The listings for these types of companies will be free and the entire directory will be supported through corporate sponsors (some really big names we can't mention as of yet). We will also be working toward our goal of hiting the 500 customer mark.

Good Morning All

Well here it is 6 am having pulled another all nighter! I guess the good thing is today is Saturday. At least I should be able to get in a siesta at some point. The sun is just coming up here in Central Florida. Looks to be a nice day even though I'll likely be in a fog the whole time.

Been extremely busy between editing photos for several clients, doing some web site judging (WebAwards) and several pro bono projects eWareness (http://www.ewarenessinc.com) is working on at the moment.

What else has happened since my last post? Well we've added two more people to the eWareness staff. We've also adopted a dog from the Brevard County Animal Shelter. One day I'll post her photo. We named her Radar on account of her ears that are about twice the normal size for frame.

Well I guess it's back to work. Everyone please enjoy July 7, 2007. I hear today is supposed to be lucky. We'll see if this is the case.

Uno de Mayo

Hello everyone. Looks like we are now into May. I can not believe how frigging fast time is flying. We are now into our 5th month of 2007. A lot has happened so far this year.

On a professional note: we've hired two more people to eWareness' staff. We are still in the midst of finding bigger office spaces but aren't in a rush to move. As far as clients, we've increased our client base this year by over 1000%. We've also expanded out into other geographic locations like VA, CA and MA.

On a personal note: well I have some bad news. I have joined the ranks of the 40 something crowd. Yep... just a few weeks ago I officially crossed over into 40.

That's pretty much it. Life is more or less work, work, work. Up at 6:30am working on the computer right away. 20 minutes for a bike ride. At the office around 9. Leave for the day around 8pm. Work on the computer until about 11pm or so and that's it.

Spring is just about here. Well in Florida it's been here for a while. Temps have been in the upper 70s/lower 80s off and on the past couple of weeks.

Speaking of Spring... anybody else dragging arse since the time change? I don't know what's going on. I feel like a zoombie all day long. I know the others in my office are dragging their behinds too. It's tough.

Well take it easy.

Was a wonderful weekend. Spent some time cruising around the Space Coast of Florida. The temp was mild and was anywhere between 68 and 75. We went out for beer and wings Friday night. Saturday worked around the house as well as did work for the biz. Sunday cruised down to Vero Beach and back. All and all a nice weekend.

Hello one and all. Another day has come and just about gone. Spent a great deal of time on the computer since I made my last post. Still living here in sunny Florida. Today Tracy and I took a drive to the beach with the convertible top down. We actually stopped for a short while and got out and watched all the Northerners who are likely down for their vacations. They are easy to spot because they are the only ones swimming in the water in February. All in all today was very lovely (around 78 Degrees). Well. I'll try to post more when I get a chance. Cheers.
